PJC Tree Care — stump grinding work

Stumps, plots and aftermath

Ground Work & Clearance

What "Stump Grinding" actually means.

Once a tree has been felled, the stump is usually ground out so the area can be reused. Our grinder takes the stump and main root flare to roughly 15–25 cm below ground level — enough to returf, replant or pave. The wider root mass is left in the soil to break down naturally over the following years.

What's involved on the day

  • Assessment of stump size, access route, and any services underground
  • Mechanical grinding to 15–25 cm below ground level
  • Removal of grindings, or backfilling with topsoil if you prefer
  • Tidy finish so the area is ready for reuse

When you might need it

  • A felled stump is in the way of a lawn, drive or replanting plan
  • Stump is creating a trip hazard or attracting honey-fungus risk
  • Paving or building works planned over the spot
  • Multiple stumps on a development plot need clearing in one visit

Not sure if stump grinding is what you need?

That's normal — most customers describe the symptom (too much shade, falling branches, a worrying lean) and we recommend the work from there. The site visit is free.
